Cancer is a dreaded word we have all heard as family and friends have gone through diagnosis and treatment. It touches the patient, family, and friends emotionally, physically, and financially. A diagnosis of cancer is devastating at any age, but for a child it is especially difficult. So this year, it is our mission to raise awareness and money for Pediatric Brain Cancer research. The statistics regarding pediatric brain tumors are disheartening.
This year, we honor two very special families who have been directly affected by this disease: the Stephens family, who lost their daughter Emily last year after a 20 year battle with brain cancer, and the Evetts family, whose daughter Layla heroically battles a brain tumor today. We are incredibly humbled to be able to honor these amazing families this year at the Summer Nights and Carnival Lights June 29th at the Waco Convention Center.
For more than 100 years, The American Cancer Society has been leading the fight to end cancer. With your support, we have helped usher in an era where more people survive cancer than ever before. By translating our research findings into action, we've seen a 20% decline in US cancer death rates since the early 1990s.
