For the last 24 years, Central Texas has come together to fight one of the worst diseases in the world, cancer. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States, accounting for almost 1 of every 4 deaths. Since the first Cattle Baron’s Ball in 1993, Central Texas has raised over $5 million. In Texas alone, the American Cancer Society is currently funding 53 grants totaling $30,226,000. Through your generous dedication over the years, the cancer survival rate has increased from 49% in the late 1970s to 69% in 2011. In the United States, there are currently 14.5 million people that have cancer or are cancer survivors, and the American Cancer Society projects almost 1.7 million new cancer cases in 2016.
Serving as the 2017 General Chairmen for the 25th Anniversary of the Central Texas Cattle Baron’s Ball is not only an honor but a privilege. When we decided to begin volunteering for the American Cancer Society, we felt called to help this cause in any way we could, but we did not expect to be blessed with the friendships we have built inside the ACS community. Whether watching a friend or loved one fight cancer, or having fought it yourself, this disease has affected all of us. Coming together with the generous support of our sponsors and dedicated volunteers, the work of the American Cancer Society has been one of the main drivers of the substantial progress made in the fight against cancer. We firmly believe, with continued support, we will find a cure.
So, we invite you to join us on July 29, 2017 at the Waco Convention Center as we continue “Wrangling Cancer” and celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Central Texas Cattle Baron’s Ball!
